Do you want to own an new and rapidly expanding engineering function? Are you interested in event driven architectures, open source, AWS and IoT (connected devices)? If so, we have the perfect role for you… We're searching for a Head of Engineering to own the department for a ~ £500m funded company in London revolutionising modern living in the UK, US and Europe. Key to achieving their mission is creating a complex suite of interconnected services that will allow them to make this - already prooven - new living concept a reality at global scale. Currently all development has been handle by external partners working closely with an internal Product and they are looking to bring everything in-house. The Head of Engineering will report directly to the CTO and work closely with them to guide the technical direction of the platform including architecture, tooling/technology deployed, working practices and standard as well as scale the engineering team and coach/mentor across disciplines. There are two key systems in place already; a smart and entirely bespoke property management system which handles things like flexible billing and intelligent room allocation, as well as a React Native mobile app for iOS and Android which is used to communicate and engage with the end-users of their concept. Both are backed by APIs (REST + GraphQL) built with Python Django and deployed to the cloud. It's really just the beginning though and there is an ambitious vision for what technology can achieve for the business. This will involve extending existing platform significantly, creating entirely new products from scratch and integrating with a diverse range of SaaS solutions to handle the many touch points there are along the user journey of their service. We're looking for a Head of Engineering with a background leading development and/or influence architecture on distributed/microservices platforms who has an interest in event driven architectures and modern/automated engineering practices e.g. Infra as Code/CD. You will need prior experience working in the cloud (AWS ideally but any is fine) as well as building successful engineering teams. We're less concerned about specific languages but we have a strong preference for open source technologies and if you have any knowledge of Python or Node that would be seen as a big plus. The scope for the impact this team will have is substantial. If you're looking for a Head of Engineering role with a company where you will get the backing to be forward thinking, the budget to hire who is needed to deliver on this and some deeply interesting engineering challenges to solve then look no further. If interested in this Head of Engineering role then please apply to this advert and William will be in touch to discuss further.
