Our client has engaged us to introduce them to an excellent Head of Procurement to be based in Yorkshire. The role is to: To improve the effectiveness of the purchasing function across the Group, by developing and staffing a function that will evolve as the business evolves. The job holder will set annual targets agreed by the business to: Improve inventory management across the group, reducing stock cover and obsolescence, while improving stock availability to customers. Drive cost reductions both in direct and indirect purchasing. Manage the function across all regions and integrate any further acquisitions. Drive service level improvement from suppliers. Work cross functionally to deliver these improvements Key Accountabilities are: Inventory management Liaise with Sales & Marketing to improve forecast accuracy Drive reduction in minimum order quantity and lead-times from suppliers Maximise use of MRP systems Drive reduction in stock cover across the group Improve stock availability Reduce stock write off Cost reduction Review direct and indirect spend across the group and identify cost saving and cost avoidance opportunities Drive group cost savings through leveraging group spend, tenders and cross-costing with existing and new suppliers Staff management Recruit, train, develop, manage and motivate the procurement team Drive purchasing best practices Supplier management Drive cost reductions and improved payment terms Drive improvements in supplier service level Identify key strategic suppliers to develop strong relationships who will see the client as a "go to" customer Reporting Reporting clearly on key deliverables and one off projects Experience, Skills and Qualifications Experience - Essential criteria: Purchasing accountability for circa €50m/annum, through running a purchasing function or as a senior team member with autonomy At least 5 years senior procurement experience MS Office: Excel (advanced level), Word, Outlook, PowerPoint Experience in managing MRP systems Experience in managing Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) International experience Managing transformation of a procurement function Skills - Essential criteria: High numeracy Good communication - to represent the procurement function across the business, engage the team and the supply base. Planning and organizing Fluent in English (verbal and written); other language an advantage Leadership skills - To lead the team and inspire confidence and effectively represent the function at senior levels internally and externally Change management - To have the courage, intellect and confidence to plan and then manage the team through the ambiguity and discomfort thrown up by change Strategic thinking Team building and management skills Ability to work well with all levels of management and clearly under pressure To be comfortable with ambiguity Problem-solving and conflict management Ability to develop a clear reasoned plan with incomplete information Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher MCIPS or equivalent an advantage
